The 2019-2020 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season kicked off last weekend, and the Tennessee Wesleyan men and Campbellsville women earned their first wins of the new season at the Green River Classic.
Held at Danville Bowlarama in Danville, Kentucky, the Green River Classic had 11 men's and seven women's varsity programs, and teams bowled five traditional games and 12 Baker games with total pinfall determining the winner in each division.
The Tennessee Wesleyan men made their move at the end of the traditional block, rolling to a 1,068 team effort in the final game to build a lead of more than 160 pins over the field. The Bulldogs maintained the advantage through Baker competition to win with a 7,104 total.
Lindsey Wilson took second in the men's division with 6,921, and Campbellsville finished third with 6,821.
Lindsey Wilson's Tanner Goodman earned the top individual honor at the Green River Classic on the strength of games of 266 and 240 to post a five-game score of 1,054, a 210.8 average. Other student-athletes in the top five of the men's division included Tennessee Wesleyan's Zachary Price (1,027), Thomas More's Jake Farley (1,019), Campbellsville-Harrodsburg's Daniel Montgomery (1,017) and Bethel's Richard Martin (1,013).
In the women's division, Campbellsville and Union battled back and forth for the lead during the traditional block, with Union holding a four-pin advantage after five games. Campbellsville took advantage of a consistent start in Baker competition to regain the lead and finished with a 211 effort to seal the win with 6,540.
Union was second with 6,461, and Lindsey Wilson was third with 6,334.
Campbellsville's Candace Gibson earned the top spot in the women's individual standings, finishing with a 257 game for a 945 total, a 189 average. Union's Julia Edenfield was second with 943, and Campbellsville's Shelbi Morris was third with 938. Union's Taylor Booth (915) and Lindsey Wilson's Jacqueline Oliphant (910) also finished in the top five.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the RC Warrior Fall Classic in Troy, Michigan, the Spring Arbor women and Madonna men cruised to victory.
- At the Ohio Bowling Conference Tournament I in Columbus, Ohio, the Muskingum men and women swept the top spots.
- At the Racers Classic in Lima, Ohio, the Notre Dame-Ohio women and Wright State men each advanced through four-team brackets to claim victory.
