HOUSTON - The college bowling season officially kicked off Saturday with the SWIBC Falls Singles Classic at Palace Lanes with Sean Lavery-Spahr of North Texas and Taylor Ward of Houston Community College taking home the titles.
Lavery-Spahr qualified for the match-play bracket as the second seed and went 5-0 in matches. He knocked off top seed Frank Papandrea of Houston, 2-0, in the best of three title match. Lavery-Spahr swept Papandrea, 268-193 and 246-203.
In the semifinals, Lavery-Spahr advanced with a 2-0 win over Dylan Bunyard of Southwestern Christian, while Papandrea defeated Drew Johnson of Houston, 2-1.
On the women's side, Ward finished qualifying fourth position and took down No. 11 seed Jasmine Adams of Texas Southern in the final match, 2-0. Ward won the opening game 229-198 and took the second game 257-182.
Ward advanced to the title match with a 2-0 win over Kacey Dozier of Texas Southern, while Adams defeated Karen Montague of Texas A&M, 2-1.
