The Lawrence Tech men and Wright State women kicked off their 2016-2017 USBC Collegiate season with victories last weekend at the 2016 Racer Classic in Lima, Ohio.
Top-seeded Lawrence Tech took down Wright State in the stepladder finals to capture the men's crown at Westgate Entertainment Center. The Blue Devils earned the top seed after leading qualifying with a 9,199 total. Wright State defeated tournament host Northwestern Ohio in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.
Northwestern Ohio's Jimmy Ebeling averaged 217 for six games to claim individual honors on the men's side. He was followed by Urbana teammates Kyle Cook (1,288) and Eric Bator (1,267), Meeco Walker of Notre Dame College (1,258) and Jerome Penxa II of Lawrence Tech (1,229).
On the women's side, Wright State defeated Bowling Green in the stepladder finals to claim the women's title. The Raiders were the top seed for the championship match after leading qualifying with a 8,403 total. Bowling Green defeated Notre Dame College in the semifinals to earn its spot in the title match.
Individually, Urbana's Maude Demers and Wright State's Collien Hines were the only bowlers to average more than 200. Demers paced the women's field with a 1,297 total (216.16 average), while Hines' 1,216 total was good for second. Bowling Green teammates Rachel Bianculli (1,179), Miranda Romano (1,134) and Emily Henceroth (1,107) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

- At the Railsplitter Baker Season Kickoff in Harrogate, Tennessee, the Emmanuel men and Cumberlands women claimed titles at the inaugural Baker event hosted by Lincoln Memorial.
