Men's competition

Lindenwood squads swept the top spots in this 49-team event. Lindenwood-Gold shot 9,717 to take first place in the power point standings, and Lindenwood-Lions won the match-play bracket by defeating Calumet-Black 3-1 (195-161, 210-176, 189-203, 237-193).

Calumet-Black also finished runner up in the power point standings, shooting 9,528. Vincennes-Blue (9,415), Saginaw Valley State-A (9,342) and Wright State-Black (9,338) rounded out the top five.

The bracket standings worked themselves out a bit differently. Places three through five went to Wright State-Black, Martin Methodist and Lindenwood-Gold, respectively, leaving Vincennes-Blue, Saginaw Valley State-A and Toledo to settle for six through eight.

Joe Sabo of Toledo shot 744 (237, 217 and 290) during his final three games to take the individual title with a six-game total of 1,361, an average of 226.83. Brett Cunningham of Lindenwood was second with 1,355 (225.83). Matt Gasn of Saginaw Valley State (1,304 - 217.33), Greg Patz of Wright State (1,298 - 216.33) and Mike Snow of Saginaw Valley State (1,294 - 215.67) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Women's competition

Pikeville-Orange and Lindenwood-Reid both got a taste of first place as Pikeville-Orange edged out Robert Morris University of Illinois, 9,649-9,637, in the power point race, and Lindenwood-Reid won the bracket finals by defeating Pikeville-Black 3.5-.5 (214-201, 223-223, 204-203, 246-243).

Lindenwood-Reid also fared well in the power point standings, shooting 8,898 to finish third. Bellarmine-Burgundy (8,864) and Martin Methodist (8,662) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Pikeville-Orange was third in the bracket standings, followed by Lindenwood-Richter and Robert Morris. Bellarmine-Burgundy was sixth, Pikeville-White seventh and Martin Methodist eighth.

The individual crown went to Jennifer Wright of Pikeville-Orange, who shot 777 (244-279-254) en route to a six-game total of 1,416, an average of 236. Samantha Kelly of Robert Morris was second with 1,358 (226.33). Jenny Petzoldt of Lindenwood-Reid (1,300 - 216.67), Heather D'Errico of Robert Morris (1,298 - 216.33) and Emily Witt of Pikeville-Orange (1,296 - 216.00) rounded out top five.

William Paterson-Black fired 9,067 during team play and 1,198 during Baker to establish the winning total of 10,265, which put it 120 pins ahead of second-place Rochester-IT-B (10,145).

Briarcliffe secured third place at 9,988. North Carolina State (9,783) and William Paterson-Orange (9,759) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Mark Strausbaugh of Shippensburg was tops among individuals. He shot a 279 en route to a nine-game total of 2,008, which was good for a 223.11 average. He was the only bowler in the field to break 2,000. The remaining spots in the top five went to Joe Novara of Briarcliffe (1,996), Jonathan Deuire of William Paterson-Black (1,981), John Kolessides of George Mason (1,921) and Mark Scuderi of Rochester IT-B (1,893).

Women's competition

Penn State and Briarcliffe battled closely throughout, but Penn State managed to stay ahead at every turn, outscoring Briarcliffe, 7,777-7,731 during team and 1,049-966 during Baker to capture first place by a final score of 8,826-8,697.

Suny IT finished third with 8,540. Mohawk Valley (8,469) was fourth, and Rochester IT (8,401) fifth.

Liz Seibel of Penn State, a 2009 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships qualifier, won the individual crown with a nine-game total of 1,837. Danielle Knittle, Seibel's Penn State teammate, finished second with 1,774. Liz Snyder of Rochester IT (1,705), Danielle Cessman of Briarcliffe (1,610) and Gina Capone of Briarcliffe (1,601) grabbed the remaining spots in the top five.

Louisiana Tech was forced to work overtime, but it eventually defeated Stephen F. Austin, 238-183, in a deciding Baker game to collect first place atop the five-team field.

The fight to the finish was an interesting one. First, the two schools finished the event with identical 6-2 match-play records, so a deciding Baker game was called upon to determine the tournament champion. Unfortunately, that game did not yield a victor as the two squads tied at 178, prompting the need for yet another Baker battle.

The final game was not nearly as close. Louisiana Tech got lined up precisely as Stephen F. Austin began losing its way, which allowed Tech to finally walk away with the top spot.

Prairie View finished in third place while Alabama State finished fourth. Grambling rounded out the standings in fifth place.

Phebe Jackson of Prairie View A&M was named tournament MVP. She shot 775 during her four games of team competition, giving her a 193.75 average. The following bowlers were named to the all-tournament team: Houston Granger - Louisiana Tech; Jackie Longo - Alabama State; Dustie Hammond - Stephen F. Austin; Kayla Ghersini - Louisiana Tech and Sierra Gibbons - Stephen F. Austin.
