The Pikeville women and Emmanuel men each recorded big wins last weekend at the MSC Louisville Collegiate Classic.
The women's division was held at Fern Valley Lanes, while men's competition took place at Kingpin Lanes. A total of 18 women's and 26 men's varsity teams laced up for five traditional games and 12 Baker games to determine the champion in each division.
Pikeville built its lead to nearly 140 pins over the field with a strong finish in the traditional block and was the only team to average more than 200 in the women's division during Baker competition to post a 383-pin victory with a 7,280 total.
Martin Methodist was second with 6,897, and Campbellsville was third with 6,884.
Pikeville's Lauren Piotrowski was the top individual performer in the women's division, posting a five-game block of 1,076, a 215.2 average. Emmanuel's Arianna Campbell finished second with 1,042, and Shawnee State's Chloe Long was third with 1,013. Pikeville's Jessica Wolfe (1,002) and Tennessee Wesleyan's Emma Parks (1,001) were the only other players to average more than 200 for five games.
In the men's division, Emmanuel was second after the traditional block but cruised to a 375-pin win after averaging 227 in its 12 Baker games to claim the top spot with 7,899.
Northwestern Ohio finished second with 7,524, and Marian (Indiana) was third with 7,469.
Individually, Emmanuel's Steven Faulkner fired 256 in his final game to secure the top honor, finishing with a five-game score of 1,140, a 228 average. Tennessee Wesleyan's Briton Helton was second with 1,120, and Pikeville's Dustin Yocum (1,106), University of the Cumberlands' Thomas McNeal (1,091) and Marian's Jeffery Mann (1,089) also finished in the top five.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Midwest Collegiate Championships in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, the McKendree men and St. Francis-Illinois women claimed the first Tier 1 titles of the 2019-2020 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season.
- At the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference I in Allen Park, Michigan, the Indiana Tech women rolled to a big win, while the Lawrence Tech men took the lead during the final Baker game to edge Indiana Tech by three pins.
- At the Bearcat Invitational in Vestal, New York, the Rochester Institute of Technology men won the final two games in the best-of-three bracket finals to defeat Georgian, 2-1, while Corning Community College led the women's division in total pinfall.
- At the MSC Thomas N. Burris Memorial in Louisville, Kentucky, the Pikeville women completed the weekend sweep, while the Martin Methodist men made their move in Baker competition to claim the top spot.
