In the first major event of the 2014-15 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season, the Robert Morris-Illinois men and Grand View women picked up wins at the 44th Annual Midwest Bowling Championships at AMF Bowlero in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
Robert Morris-Illinois topped the men's division by more than 270 pins with a total of 11,695. St. Ambrose finished second with 11,423, while Webber International was third with 11,410.
Bobby Phillips of Wisconsin-Whitewater earned top individual honors with a nine-game total of 1,983 (220.33 average). Kyle Anderson of St. Ambrose finished second with 1,944, while Jeff Wallace of Notre Dame-Ohio was third with 1,909.
On the women's side, Grand View finished with 10,997 to pick up the victory. Webber International was second with 10,836, and Wright State was third with 10,746.
Brittany Smith of Grand View was the top finisher in the women's individual standings with a nine-game total of 1,888 (209.78 average). Katelyn Tharp of Ashford was second with 1,830, while Morgan O'Brien of Clarke was third with 1,814.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the TyBryt Invitational Bakers Challenge in The Colony, Texas, the West Texas A&M men and Spring Hill College women survived bracket play to pick up the victories.
- At the Southern Kentucky Collegiate Classic in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the Pikeville men and women pulled off the sweep of the titles.
