In the biggest event so far of the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season, the Webber International women and Calumet College of St. Joseph men won the 45th Annual Midwest Bowling Championships.
Conducted at AMF Bowlero in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, the Midwest Bowling Championships drew 50 men's teams and 32 women's teams from across the country.
Webber International's women's team rolled to the title, finishing with a total of 9,266 to top the field by more than 200 pins. Wright State, which won its first two tournaments of the season, finished second with 9,042, while Ursuline rounded out the top three with 8,957.
Katie Maher of St. Ambrose topped the women's individual standings with a six-game tally of 1,307. Brittany Smith of Grand View was second with 1,296, while Colleen Hines of Wright State took third with 1,274. Lexie Shirley of Ursuline was fourth with 1,254, while Erin Michelfelder of Lindenwood was fifth with 1,246.
On the men's side, Calumet picked up a narrow victory over Webber International, finishing with a total of 9,624. Webber took the No. 2 spot with 9,547, while Lindenwood was third with 9,536.
The men's individual standings were dominated by Chris Elizondo of Notre Dame-Ohio with a six-game total of 1,401. Shane Matejcak of St. Francis-Illinois was second with 1,385, Kenny Ryan of Robert Morris-Illinois was third at 1,371 and Joe Bowers of Calumet and Michael Coffey of Lindenwood tied for fourth with 1,333.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Southern Kentucky Collegiate Classic in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the Bethel men and Pikeville women took home the titles.
