The Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah women and men swept the titles last weekend at the Midwest Collegiate Championships in the greater Milwaukee area.

The first Tier I event of the 2021-2022 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season was contested at AMF West Lanes for the women's division and Bowlero Wauwatosa for men's competition. The tournament featured 30 varsity women's programs and 41 men's varsity teams.

The event featured six traditional games Saturday and 16 Baker games Sunday to determine the eight teams in each division advancing to bracket competition. All bracket matches featured a best-of-three Baker format.

In the women's division, SCAD-Savannah qualified fifth overall and defeated No. 4 St. Ambrose (2-0) and top qualifier Mount Mercy (2-1) to set up a title tilt against No. 2 Webber International. Webber had swept No. 7 Lindenwood and bested No. 6 St. Francis-Illinois, 2-1, to advance.

After winning Game 1 (182-176) and dropping Game 2 (164-159), SCAD-Savannah's Pamela Perez filled 20 pins in the 10th frame of the deciding game to force Webber to strike to win the Midwest Collegiate Championships. Webber was unable to connect on its first delivery, leaving a 4-6-7 split, and the open frame helped the Bees capture the victory, 184-168.

Mount Mercy earned the top seed for the bracket with an 8,859 qualifying total. Webber finished with 8,799, and Midland was third with 8,577. William Penn qualified eighth and earned the final spot in bracket play with 8,158.

In the women's individual standings, Mount Mercy's Ayra Aminuddin rolled 241 in her final game to earn top honors, finishing with a six-game total of 1,258, a 209.66 average.

Aminuddin was joined on the all-tournament team by William Penn's Gabriella Evans (1,242), Morningside's Carissa Johnson (1,240), Midland's Chloe Herman (1,226) and Trine's Jaden Howard (1,225).

The men's championship round also featured SCAD-Savannah taking on Webber for the title. SCAD-Savannah qualified third overall and defeated No. 6 Mount Mercy (2-1) and No. 2 McKendree (2-1) to advance, while No. 5 Webber swept No. 4 Marian and No. 1 St. Ambrose to move onto the finals.

Webber claimed Game 1 in the finals, 224-187, and SCAD-Savannah's Tyrell Ingalls delivered three strikes in the 10th frame of Game 2 to help the Bees even the match, 208-206. In the deciding game, SCAD-Savannah delivered eight strikes in the first nine frames on the way to a 241-210 victory.

In qualifying, St. Ambrose paced the men's division with a 9,772 total and was followed by McKendree (9,634) and SCAD-Savannah (9,530). Judson qualified eighth with 9,219.

St. Ambrose's Nathan Stubler and Marian-Indiana's Jordan Shepherd tied for top individual honors in the men's division, with each student-athlete posting a 1,394 total, a 232.33 average.

Wisconsin-Whitewater's Brett Beuthin (1,388), Marian-Indiana's Nolan Blessing (1,376) and Mount Mercy's Kai Yamada (1,349) also earned spots on the men's all-tournament team.

In other collegiate action:

- At the Ohio Bowling Conference I in Columbus, Ohio, the Northwestern Ohio men and Ohio State women rolled to victories.

- At the MSC Bowling Green Baker Bash in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the Tennessee Southern men edged Bethel-Tennessee for the win after 40 Baker games.

- At the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) I in Dallas, the Tulane women and Oklahoma Christian men claimed the top spots.

- At the SWIBC II in Dallas, the Spring Hill men and Louisiana Tech women finished the weekend at the top of the standings.
