The Lindenwood women escaped with a narrow victory, while the Robert Morris-Illinois men blew past the field to pick up the title at the Boilermaker Classic at Mike Aulby's Arrowhead Bowl in Lafayette, Ind.
Lindenwood finished with 7,627 after five games of traditional team play and four Baker rounds to just edge past Robert Morris-Illinois' women's team, which finished with 7,588. Calumet finished third with 7,390.
Things weren't as close at the top of the men's standings as Robert Morris-Illinois won by more than 300 pins with a total of 8,333. Lindenwood was second with 8,030, and Morehead State took third with 8,020.
Indiana Tech's Brooke Copenhaver earned top individual honors among the women with a five-game total of 1,086 (217.2 average). The next closest player was Courtney Johnston of Robert Morris with 1,000. Tawni Vollmer of Robert Morris finished third with 995.
On the men's side, Matt Pearson of Lindenwood fired 1,150 (230 average) to earn the top spot, while Bryan Tippett of Mount Mercy was second with 1,112. David Schwartz of Robert Morris rounded out the top three with 1,103.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Florida Gators Baker Shootout in Gainesville, Fla., Webber International rolled to both the men's and women's titles.
- At the Hampton Roads Collegiate Bowling Invitational in Chesapeake, Va., North Carolina A&T defeated Monmouth, 4-0, to finish first.
- At the Southern Kentucky Classic in Bowling Green, Ky., the Louisville men rolled to an easy win, while Pikeville snuck past Victory to win on the women's side.
