The Webber International women and Spring Hill men showed off their best Baker performances on the way to wins at the Savannah College of Art and Design/University of Florida Baker Shootout in Savannah, Georgia, last weekend.
Each team competing at the SCAD/UF Baker Shootout bowled 36 Baker games to determine the four varsity teams in each division that would advance to the match-play bracket at AMF Savannah Lanes. Bracket matches featured a best-of-three format.
The women's championship match required more than three games as Webber and Emmanuel were tied, 1.5-1.5, after Game 3. A ninth and 10th frame roll-off broke the tie, as Webber was able to deliver a double and record the victory, 47-38.
Webber, the top overall seed after qualifying, defeated Florida State, 2-0, to reach the finals, while Emmanuel, the No. 2 seed, swept Spring Hill, 2-0, in the semifinals.
In the men's final, Spring Hill defeated Florida State, 2-0, to claim the title. Spring Hill edged by Florida State in the first game, 150-139, and secured the win by a score of 204-195 in Game 2.
Spring Hill qualified second and defeated Emmanuel, 2-0, to advance to the championship round. Florida State was the final team to qualify for the match-play bracket and knocked off top seed Webber in the semifinals, 2-0.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Wildcat Invitational in Orlando, Florida, the Sam Houston State women bested Arkansas State in the championship round, 4-1.
- At the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference III in Arlington, Texas, the West Texas A&M men dominated, while the Central Oklahoma women edged the competition.
- At the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference IV in Fort Worth, Texas, the West Texas A&M men and women swept the top spots.
- At the West Michigan Laker Intercollegiate in Grandville, Michigan, the Bowling Green State women coasted to a big win, while the Judson men captured the program's first title.
- At the Pennsylvania Classic in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the William Paterson men and Muskingum women led the way for easy wins.
- At the Boilermaker Classic in Lafayette, Indiana, Robert Morris-Illinois claimed the top spots in both the men's and women's divisions.
- At Andy B's Baker Challenge in Springfield, Missouri, the Kansas Wesleyan men held onto the win, while the Central Missouri women coasted to victory.
- At the Stout State Open in Menomonie, Wisconsin, the Wisconsin-Madison women and Morningside men made their way through the bracket for victories.
- At the Crusader Classic in Valparaiso, Indiana, the McKendree women rolled to the top spot.
