The Wichita State men escaped with a narrow victory, while the Wichita State women blew out their division as the Shockers swept the titles at the 2013 Midstates Championships at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan.
Wichita State edged out Lindenwood to take the men's title. The Shockers finished with 12,505, while Lindenwood took second with 12,479, a margin of just 26 pins. Newman took third at 12,330, while Midland was fourth with 12,140.
The women's final standings where not nearly as close as Wichita State finished with 12,410, topping second place Central Missouri's 11,356. Lindenwood was third with 11,194, while Midland took fourth with 11,076.
In the men's individual standings, Lindenwood took the top three spots as Ben Pallardy finished first with a nine-game total of 1,956 (217.3 average). Cristian Azcona was second with 1,922, while Kyle Sherman was third with 1,915.
The Shockers took the top two spots in the women's individual standings as Holly Harris finished first with a nine-game total of 1,976 (219.5 average) and Tannya Roumimper was second with 1,864. Kara Richard of Central Missouri was third with 1,789.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference #1 in Adrian, Mich., the Davenport men and women swept the titles.
- At the Blue Hen Open in Wilmington, Del., N.C. State defeated William Paterson in the championship match.
- At the Western Shootout in Indianapolis, the Robert Morris-Illinois men and women both took narrow victories.
- At the Central Florida Classic in Orlando, Fla., the Webber International men and Florida State women won the bracket competition.
