The St. Francis-Illinois women and Notre Dame-Ohio men held off the competition to claim titles at the Storm Western Shootout in Indianapolis this past weekend.
St. Francis-Illinois carried a slight lead into Baker competition at Western Bowl, and kept their distance from the field to win with an 8,531 total. Ursuline took second on the women's side with 8,459, while St. Ambrose finished third with 8,412.
Nicole Troha of St. Francis-Illinois fired a perfect game on her way to the top of the individual standings, finishing with a six-game series of 1,279 (213.16 average). St. Ambrose's Kayla Crawford was second with 1,233, and Marian's Amber Thompson took third with 1,222.
In men's competition, Notre Dame-Ohio stayed steady to post a winning score of 9,361. Morehead State (9,267) and Robert Morris-Illinois (9,257) battled for second and third, respectively.
William Penn's Jacques Kaune rolled a 247 in his final game to finish with a 1,330 total (221.66) and secured individual honors ahead of Purdue's Zach Weidman (1,325). Jeff Wallace of Notre Dame-Ohio finished third with 1,309.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
-At the Midstates Championships in Wichita, Kansas, the Lindenwood men and Wichita State women cruised to the titles.
-At the Central Florida Classic in Orlando, Florida, the Spring Hill women and Webber International men each recorded 2-0 victories in the championship round to secure the victory.
-At the Blue Hen Open in Wilmington, Delaware, the William Paterson men defeated top seed The College of New Jersey in the finals, 2-0, to take home the win.
-At the first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference bowling jamboree in Sterling Heights, Michigan, the Northwestern Ohio women and Concordia men claimed the top spots in the standings.
