The McKendree men and Webber International women claimed titles at the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic, the second of 10 Tier 1 events during the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season, this past weekend in Atlanta.
McKendree took the lead after six traditional games Saturday, which included the highest team game of the event (1,121), and withstood a late rally from Webber during Sunday’s 24-game Baker round, to capture the win with an 11,288 pinfall total.
The Bearcats also placed three bowlers in the top five of the individual standings, led by Greg Young Jr., who finished with a 1,409 six-game total (234.83), and teammate William Goodman, who finished second with 1,405. Alex George of Newman finished third with a 1,323 total and was followed by McKendree’s Bryan Hahlen (1,313) and Webber International’s Giorgio Clinaz (1,307).
On the women’s side, Webber trailed Pikeville by 38 pins after Saturday’s six traditional games but opened Sunday’s Baker portion with the field’s highest four-game set of 887 to leapfrog Pikeville for the lead, and, ultimately, the win, with a 10,625 pinfall total.
Lindenwood-Belleville’s Lauren Sides topped the individual standings with a 1,310 pinfall total, an average of 218.33. Her teammate, Dene Standifer, was second with a 1,283 total, while Pikeville’s Megan Hedgespeth (1,276), Bellarmine’s Marissa Thomas (1,268) and Pikeville’s Jenna Coldiron (1,258) rounded out the top five.
Also on Sunday, the Lindenwood women rolled the tournament’s only Baker 300 game, using the effort to help secure a fourth-place finish.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Track Kat Klash in Houston, host Sam Houston State defeated Nebraska, 4.5-1.5, for the title.
- At the Virginia Union Invitational in Midlothian, Virginia, St. Francis (New York) knocked off Norfolk State, 4-2, to capture the victory.
- At the CHC Dual Matches in Devon, Pennsylvania, Chestnut Hill won the event.
- At the AC Open in Adrian, Michigan, the Lawrence Tech men swept Toledo, 2-0, while the Concordia women defeated host Adrian College, 2-1, to claim victories.
- At the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge in Lawrence, Kansas, the Wichita State men and women were dominant, sweeping both titles.
- At the Titan Invite in Neenah, Wisconsin, the Robert Morris-Illinois men and women brought home victories.
