The Lindenwood women and William Paterson men won titles at the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic, the second Tier 1 event of the 2017-2018 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season.

Held last weekend at Brunswick Zone Austell in Marietta, Georgia, the event featured 24 women's varsity teams and 34 men's varsity teams. Teams competed in six traditional games on Saturday and then returned Sunday for 24 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champions in each division.

The Lindenwood women posted the top score through Saturday's six games, and the Lions did not back down during Sunday's Baker competition, winning the title with a 10,118 pinfall total. Pikeville was second with 10,006, while Newman finished third with 9,723.

Rebekah Commane of Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah rolled 247 in her final game to catapult to the top of the women's individual standings with a 1,243 total. Lindenwood's Taylor Lee (1,216) and Pikeville's Jessica Wolfe (1,207) were the only other players to average more than 200 for the six-game block, while Campbellsville's Crystal Land (1,195) and Bethel's Tierra Jackson (1,166) rounded out the all-tournament team.

On the men's side, William Paterson dug itself out from a 131-pin deficit after Saturday's round, averaging more than 214 during Baker competition on Sunday to win with a 11,437 total. McKendree finished second with 11,370, and Vincennes took third with 11,307.

The battle for the top individual performance went to Vincennes' Tommy Tkacz, who finished the six-game block with a 1,416 total (236 average). McKendree's Matt Farber was second with 1,409, and Belmont Abbey's Shawn Stacey (1,398), Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah's Benjamin Martinez (1,383) and Lincoln Memorial's Hunter Kempton (1,381) also averaged more than 230 on their way to top-five finishes.

In addition to the big scores at the top of the standings, a pair of student-athletes also recorded 300 games during Saturday's block. Pikeville's Matthew Cleary rolled 12 consecutive strikes in Game 3 on his way to a 1,287 total (17th place), and Vincennes' Tyler Perry matched the feat in Game 5 to finish with 1,343 (sixth place).

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Track Kat Klash in Houston, the Nebraska women bested McKendree in the title match for the second consecutive week, taking the title with a 4-1 victory.

- At the Virginia Union Invitational in Midlothian, Virginia, the Duquesne women captured the deciding game, 220-187, against Mount Aloysius to earn the title, 4-3.

- At the AC Open in Adrian, Michigan, the Spring Arbor men and Siena Heights women collected victories.

- At the Titan Invite in Neenah, Wisconsin, the Robert Morris-Illinois women took home the win against St. Xavier, 3-1, while the Wisconsin-Whitewater men won the final two games of the best-of-five title match, 254-221 and 223-198, to earn the victory against Robert Morris-Illinois, 3-2.

- At the FDU NJ Jamboree in Stratford, New Jersey, the Sacred Heart women bested top-seed Fairleigh Dickinson in the championship round, 4-2.

- At the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge in Lawrence, Kansas, the Nebraska men and Ottawa women went undefeated in bracket play to secure the victory.

- At the West Coast Collegiate Team Championships No. 1 and No. 2 in Fresno, California, the Arizona State men swept the top spots.

- At the Medaille College Tournament in Kenmore, New York, the Medaille women edged Daemen by six pins in total pinfall.

- At the Penn State Classic in State College, Pennsylvania, the Rochester Institute of Technology men cruised to the top spot in the standings.

- At the Crusader Classic in Lynwood, Illinois, the Valparaiso women posted the highest pinfall total on the way to an 8-2 record.
