The McKendree men and St. Ambrose women delivered statement wins last weekend at the National Collegiate Team Match Games in Fairview Heights, Illinois, the third Tier 1 event of the 2018-2019 season.
The event welcomed 27 men's and 17 women's varsity programs and was held at St. Clair Bowl. The tournament included six traditional games and 20 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champion in each division.
In the men's division, McKendree made its move to the top of the leaderboard during Game 4 on Saturday, rolling a 1,203 team game. The defending Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) winners continued strong during Sunday's Baker sets to claim its second Tier 1 title of the season, finishing with a 10,368 total.
St. Ambrose was second with 10,076, and Martin Methodist took third with 10,063.
St. Ambrose's Brent Boho rolled a 300 game to win the men's individual title, finishing with a 1,390 total for six games. Baker's Tyler Gromlovits was second with 1,328, while Minnesota State-Mankato's Tyler Swanson (1,326), Grand View's Zachary Mitchell (1,318) and Martin Methodist's Calin Meeks (1,316) rounded out the top five.
The St. Ambrose women dominated in their win, leading the field by 350 pins to finish with a 9,423 total. The Fighting Bees won the Leatherneck Classic two weeks ago.
Lindenwood, the 2018 ITC champion, finished second with 9,073, edging Grand View, which finished third with 9,069.
Urbana's Allyson Hosier rallied in the back half of her block to claim the women's individual title, rolling 668 in her final three games to finish with a 1,256 total. Minnesota State-Mankato's Andrea Staples was second with 1,224, and Judson's Adaliz Carballo took third with 1,201. St. Ambrose's Natalie Koprowitz (1,184) and Lindenwood's Serenity Quintero (1,168) also finished in the top five.
