The 2023-2024 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season was jampacked last weekend, with 13 events happening across the country, highlighted by the Boilermaker Classic in Lafayette, Indiana.

The event featured 13 men’s varsity teams and 10 women’s varsity teams lacing up their shoes for five traditional games and 16 Baker games, with the winner determined by total pinfall.

After all the bowling was completed, the Purdue men and Judson women would be the ones to take home the title, as both teams claimed their first victories of the season.

On the men’s side, three teams were in the hunt for first place after Day 1, as Purdue, Marian-Indiana and Judson were all within 180 pins of each other. Purdue maintained their lead during the second day of competition by averaging just over 208 in Baker and finishing with an 8,549 total.

Purdue also had the top two individuals, as Ryan Burton led the way with games of 223, 212, 246, 254 and 206 for a 1,141 total, while teammate Lucas Francis was not far behind with a 1,111 total. Joliet Junior College’s Guy Carbonaro (1,104), Marian-Indiana’s Nickolas Archacki (1,100) and Judson’s James Kontos (1,056) joined Burton and Francis on the all-tournament team.

The women’s side was all Judson, who led Day 1 by over 300 pins and ended the tournament almost 600 pins ahead of second with a 7,824 overall total.

Judson also had three players on the all-tournament team, with Chloe Siezega (996), Paige Carpenter (980) and Demi Kontos (963) placing second, third and fourth, respectively. Marian-Indiana’s Tandess O’Neal led the women’s field with games of 204, 197, 247, 238 and 171 for a 1,057 total. Siena Heights’ Hannah Patch was the fifth and final person on the all-tournament team with a 941 total.

In other collegiate action:

- At the American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA)- Event 1 and 2 in Canton, Michigan, the Lawerence Tech men and Davenport women swept the weekend.

- At the Eastern Intercollegiate Bowing Tournament (EIBT)- Event 2 in North Brunswick, New Jersey, the William Paterson men won their second straight EIBT event.

- At the Great Lakes Bowling Conference (GLBC)- Event 2 in Madison, Wisconsin, the Marian-Wisconsin men collected their second straight GLBC event win, while the Wisconsin-Madison women got their first win of the season.

- The Valparaiso Bowling Classic in Dyer, Indiana, saw Maryville defeat Oklahoma Christian in five games to leave with the win.

- At the Sunshine State Classic in Orlando, Florida, Youngstown State defeated Jacksonville State in four games to win the tournament. Stephen F. Austin’s Juliana Kerrigan also shot 300 in Game 1 on Saturday to help the Ladyjacks roll the highest traditional match-play game in NCAA history at 1,252.

- At the Mid-South Conference Music City Open and Brandon Burns Memorial events in Smyrna, Tennessee, the Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah men and women swept the weekend.

- At the Five Season Classic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Mount Mercy men and women swept the weekend.

- At the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge in Lawerence, Kansas (men), and Topeka, Kansas (women), the Wichita State men and women collected wins.

- At the Lions Match Play Classic in St. Charles, Missouri, the Lindenwood men and women collected their first wins of the season.

- At the Bayou Brawl in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Texas- San Antonio claimed their first tournament win in program history.
