The Mid-South Conference (MSC) Lynne Jordan Memorial in Louisville, Kentucky, had some high-scoring fireworks this past weekend, as the Milligan men and Pikeville women won the conference event.

A total of 19 men’s varsity teams and 17 women’s varsity teams competed at the event, where all teams bowled five individual games and 12 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the winner.

The Milligan men had five steady individual games, with a low team game of 1,059 to end the individual portion of the tournament at 5,586 to stay just ahead of Pikeville (5,563), who was making a run for the lead with its final two team games of 1,220 and 1,204.

Milligan continued to hold off Pikeville during Baker competition and ended the tournament having an overall score of 8,062 to win by just 42 pins. 

Pikeville and Milligan each had two players on the all-tournament team, with Pikeville’s Bryce Oliver leading all men with 1,219, including a 300 game during Game 5, and teammate Eli Mayberry placing fourth (1,138). Milligan teammates Nate Trentler (1,195) and Joshua Collins (1,162) placed second and third, respectively, while Savannah College of Art and Design- Atlanta’s Matthew Magro rounded out the top five with 1,137.

On the women’s side, Pikeville started slow with 906 in Game 1 but bounced back to end the individual portion of the tournament in second and just behind Webber International by 34 pins (5,063-5,097).

During the Baker portion, Pikeville was holding steady near the top of the standings until three straight big games (241-255-257) propelled them into the lead, and a final game of 239 sealed their win with a 7,588 overall total.

Webber had two players earn all-tournament honors, as Jaqueline Witura led the women’s field with 1,104 and Linda Himes placed third (1,098). Milligan’s Emily Cheesman (1,101), University of the Cumberlands’ Kiara Abanto (1,089) and St. Francis- Illinois’ McKenzie Mattice (1,087) joined Witura and Himes on the all-tournament team.

In other collegiate action:

- In the second MSC event of the weekend at the Thomas Burris Memorial in Louisville, the Webber men won while the Pikeville women earned their second straight win. St. Francis- Illinois’ Chris Bald had the weekend’s second 300 game during Game 3.

- At the American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA)-Event 5 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Indiana Tech men and Trine women each won their second straight AHBA event. 

- At the Northeast Classic in New Castle, Delaware, the Jacksonville State women won for their fourth straight tournament.

- At the Ohio Bowling Conference (OBC)-Event 4 in Columbus, Ohio, the Northwestern Ohio men and women swept the event.

- At the Storm Baker Challenge in Addison, Illinois, the Purdue men and Calumet women collected wins.

- At the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) Event 5 and 6 in Plano, Texas, the Wichita State men and women swept both events.

- At the Walter J. Hauck Memorial Classic in Carmel, New York, the Hudson Valley CC men won the event over Suffolk County CC by 50 pins.

- At the Westchester Invitational in Carmel, New York, the Suffolk County CC men collected a win.

- At the Clarke Invite in Dubuque, Iowa, the Culver-Stockton men and Ottawa-Kansas women handily won the event.
