A pair of Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) events took place in northern Texas last weekend, highlighted by Spring Hill sweeping the men's titles.
The SWIBC V was held at Spare Time Lanes in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, while SWIBC VI was at Plano Super Bowl in Plano, Texas, on Sunday.
Each event consisted of five traditional games and 16 Baker games with total pinfall determining the winner in each division.
The Spring Hill men cruised to victory at SWIBC V, leading the field by nearly 800 pins with a 9,007 total. West Texas A&M finished second with 8,222, and Central Oklahoma was third with 8,114.
Spring Hill's Ryan Hauck led the way, averaging 251.6 on his way to a 1,258 five-game total to earn the top individual spot. Hauck's teammate Charles Noble was second with 1,228, and Texas A&M's Matthew Odom finished third with 1,163.
The Spring Hill women distanced themselves from West Texas A&M during the back half of Baker competition Saturday to win with a 7,625 pinfall total. West Texas A&M finished at 7,520, and Central Oklahoma was third with 7,199.
Central Oklahoma's Megan Rue led the women's individual standings with a 1,027 total, a 205.4 average. Spring Hill teammates Miranda Singer (1,019) and Jess Temple (1,017) just missed the top spot.
SWIBC VI saw the Spring Hill men rally in the final four Baker games, averaging more than 232 down the homestretch, to complete the weekend sweep with a 7,811 total. Central Oklahoma finished second with 7,656 and New Mexico took third place with 7,402.
Spring Hill's Hauck added another win to his collection, edging out the competition with a 1,049 five-game total. West Texas A&M's Tyler Albracht was second with 1,039, and Texas Tech's Bradley Edwards finished third with 1,034.
The West Texas A&M women made up the necessary ground in Baker competition to sneak past Spring Hill for the win at SWIBC VI, finishing with a 7,119 total. Spring Hill finished with 7,096, and Central Oklahoma took third with 6,589.
Spring Hill's Singer narrowly escaped with the women's individual title, holding off teammate Rebekah Cowan by a single pin, 935-934. Central Oklahoma's Rue added another top-three finish as she took third with 922.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the Nebraska women defeated McKendree in the title match, 4-2.
- At the Frederick E. Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic in Laurel, Maryland, the Morgan State women captured the top spot by defeating Howard in the championship round, 4-2.
- At the Devil's Duel Invitational in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Arizona State men got out to a strong start on their way to the win.
- At the Eagles Baker Challenge in Addison, Illinois, the Calumet men and Mount Mercy women were victorious through the bracket.
- At the Buckeye Baker Classic in Columbus, Ohio, the Pikeville women and Urbana men made their way through the bracket to take home the win.
- At the Antelope Shoot Out in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Grand Canyon men edged their way over the competition and to the title.
- At the Hawk Invitational in Utica, New York, the Schenectady women and Rochester Institute of Technology men rolled to the top spot.
- At the Viking Classic in Wallingford, Connecticut, the Suffolk men and Molloy women led the way.
- At the Jayhawk Great Lakes Classic in Muskegon, Michigan, the Cornerstone women and Schoolcraft men each collected narrow victories.
- At the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference II in Bradford, Pennsylvania, Mount Aloysius recorded the win.
