The Ottawa-Kansas women and men swept the top spots last weekend at the Bronco Bash in Hastings, Nebraska, and the Sam Houston State women took home the title at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
The Bronco Bash featured 10 women's varsity programs and nine men's teams. Teams competed in five traditional games and 20 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champion in each division.
In the women's field, Ottawa-Kansas built a lead of more than 100 pins over Hastings through the traditional block. The Braves were able to maintain the advantage during Baker competition to secure the victory with a 7,707 total.
Hastings placed second with 7,614, and College of Saint Mary finished third with 7,415.
Danika Hickey of Ottawa-Kansas was the only athlete to average 200 for five games in the women's division, pacing the individual field with a 1,000 total. Lexie Busch of College of Saint Mary was second with 955, and she was followed by Madison Henderson of Hastings (928), Casey Feast of Barton CC (924) and Amanda Peterson of Hastings (912).
The Ottawa-Kansas men also took advantage of the traditional block at the Bronco Bash, taking a 110-pin advantage into the Baker set. The Braves continued to pace the field on the way to the win with an 8,642 total.
Waldorf moved from fourth to second place with a strong showing during the Baker block, finishing with 8,490. Hastings was third with 8,485.
Waldorf's Harry Weigle nearly averaged 220 to claim top individual honors in the men's division, posting a 1,099 total. Jerry Jennings of Ottawa-Kansas was second with 1,075, while Winton Gassmann of Hastings (1,042), Brett Perry of Ottawa-Kansas (1,034) and Kenneth High of Hastings (1,029) also placed in the top five.
The 11th annual Prairie View A&M Invitational brought 12 NCAA women's bowling teams to the International Training and Research Center, and Sam Houston State came away with the title for the first time.

The Bearkats defeated Vanderbilt, 4-3, in the best-of-seven title match, taking the deciding game, 202-195.
Sam Houston State jumped out to a 2-0 advantage, averaging 226, but failed to break 190 over the next two games, as Vanderbilt evened the match.
The first-time champions had games of 236, 216, 156, 188, 234, 203 and 202. Vanderbilt, which won the inaugural edition of the Prairie View A&M Invitational in 2012, entered the championship bracket as the top seed and rolled games of 218, 189, 239, 236, 202, 224 and 195 in the finale.
Sam Houston State entered the bracket as the No. 2 seed and earned the meeting with the Commodores by defeating Nebraska, 4-3, in the opening round of matches. Vanderbilt topped two-time defending champion McKendree in the first set of matches, 4-3.
All 12 teams at the 2022 Prairie View A&M Invitational faced each other in a head-to-head match at least one time over the weekend, which included five five-game Baker matches Friday, five traditional games Saturday and a sixth traditional game Sunday morning, before total pinfall for the weekend determined the seeding for the three four-team brackets.
The inclusion of the traditional games allowed the top performers to also be recognized for their individual success at the ITRC.
North Carolina A&T's Lauren Tomaszewski topped the individual standings with a 1,372 six-game total, a 228.6 average.
She was joined on the all-tournament team by Amanda Chrzanowski of Fairleigh Dickinson (1,352), Mabel Cummins of Vanderbilt (1,349), Nebraska's Kayla Verstraete (1,328) and Sam Houston State's Bea Hernandez (1,304).
In other collegiate action:
- At the Red Flash Invitational in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the Morgan State women rebounded from an earlier loss to St. Francis-Pennsylvania to collect the win against them in the title match, 4-1.
- At the Sin City Open in Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon men and women swept the top spots.
- At the Rebel Classic in Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon women completed the weekend sweep with a win in the bracket, while the UNLV men claimed the title with a victory over Grand Canyon in the final.
- At the Crossroads League No. 2 in Indianapolis, the Marian-Indiana men and Pikeville women rolled to big wins.
- At the Crossroads League No. 3 in Indianapolis, the Pikeville women cruised to the sweep by more than 500 pins over second place, while the Spring Arbor men excelled in Baker competition on the way to the top of the leaderboard.
- At the Clarke Invite in Dubuque, Iowa, the Lincoln Memorial men used a strong start during the traditional block to collect the win, while the Grand View women made up a 105-pin deficit in Baker competition to record the victory.
- At the Great Lakes Bowling Conference No. 3 in Schofield, Wisconsin, the Viterbo women earned the win, while the Wisconsin-Whitewater men averaged more than 231 during the Baker block to cruise to the top spot.
- At the SCAD Baker Challenge in Lawrenceville, Georgia, the Webber International men and Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah women posted bracket wins.
- At the American Heartland Bowling Association No. 5 in Columbus, Ohio, the Madonna women and men recorded the sweep.
- At the Westchester Classic in Carmel, New York, the Rochester Institute of Technology men and women collected wins.
