Women's competition


Maryland-Eastern Shore completed the weekend sweep, shooting 7,866 to capture first place in Power Points and then going on to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-1 (243-165, 223-195, 191-235, 205-178 and 215-177), for the top spot in the match-play bracket. New Jersey City shot 7,829 to finish second in Power Points. Fairleigh Dickinson was third with 7,652, which left Kutztown (7,435) and Sacred Heart (7,371) to settle for fourth and fifth, respectively.

In individual action, Natalie Cortese of Valparaiso and Kayla Jones of Kutztown finished atop the standings with identical six-game totals of 1,324. Cortese's effort included a 278 in Game 2. Martha Perez of Maryland-Eastern Shore was third with 1,302. Joely Carillo of Fairleigh Dickinson, Nicole Drejerwski of New Jersey City and Jenn Marmo of New Jersey City each shot 1,298.

Briarcliffe shot 3,071 during doubles, 3,099 during singles and 1,999 during Baker to establish a grand total of 8,169, which was 127 pins better than the 8,042 put up by second-place Sacred Heart-A. Mohawk was third with 7,814. Nassau finished fourth at 7,236, which left fifth place to Sacred Heart-B (7,152).

A pair of Sacred Heart bowlers finished atop the all-events standings. Ryan Chinnici led the pack with a grand total of 1,307, which came as a result of 686 in doubles and 621 in singles. Teammate Dave Kipperman finished just behind at 1,285 (659 singles; 626 doubles). Terry Thompson of Briarcliffe was third with 1,260 (631 singles; 629 doubles). Alex Garger of Stony Brook was fourth (1,207 - 608 singles; 599 doubles), and Pete Briguglio of Briarcliffe was fifth (1,194 - 621 doubles; 573 singles).

Briarcliffe trailed Hudson Valley by 55 pins, 6,516-6,461, after singles and doubles, but a field-best 2,129 during Baker allowed Briarcliffe to erase the deficit and emerge with first place by a final score of 8,590-8,466. Nassau was third with 7,501. Adirondack was fourth at 7,412, and Sacred Heart-A was fifth with 7,368.

Alex Weglarz of Hudson Valley was tops in all-events; he shot 736 in doubles and 615 in singles to set the winning total of 1,351. Terry Thompson of Briarcliffe was second with 1,318. Mike Woolzinki, also of Briarcliffe, was third with 1,269. Shawn Lachapelle of Adirondack (1,241) and Jack Castellano of Briarcliffe (1,228) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

McKendree-Achmed shot 6,459 during team play and 2,499 - including bonus - during Baker en route to a total of 8,958 and first place in the Power Points standings. Achmed then went on to defeat McKendree-Walter, Lindenwood-Lions, McKendree-Peanut and Lindenwood-Simbas to win the match-play bracket and collect the tournament title.

Lindenwood-Gold shot 8,763 to finish second in Power Points. Lindenwood-Black was third with 8,574. McKendree-Peanut was fourth at 8,488, and William Penn-Blue (8,312) finished fifth.

JR Raymond of McKendree-Achmed won the individual competition with a six-game total of 1,364, which was good for a 227.33 average. Dean Richards of Lindenwood-Black was second with 1,320 (220.00).
