For the second time in three weeks, the Toledo men and Wright State women found themselves at the top of the standings as each captured a title at the Toledo Classic in Toledo, Ohio.
Held at New Glass Bowl Lanes, the event welcomed 17 men's and 13 women's varsity teams. Competition consisted of four traditional games and 16 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champion in each division.
Fresh off wins at the Bowling Green State Falcon Classic two weeks ago, the Toledo men and Wright State women each held a slight lead on the field at the conclusion of the traditional-game block before creating some distance with strong performances in Baker competition.
The Toledo men finished with a 7,200 total to claim the top spot, 137 pins ahead of Wright State (7,063). Robert Morris-Pennsylvania finished third with 6,744.
Leading Toledo during the traditional block was Travis Kominek, who took home top individual honors with a four-game total of 892, a 223 average. Wright State's Jonathan Ciero was second with 888, and Adrian's Austin Foate (877), Northern Kentucky's Joey Stevens (868) and Olivet's Brandon Kreiner (836) all struck their way into the top five.
On their way to the women's title, Wright State finished with a 6,578 total, more than 100 pins ahead of Bowling Green State (6,470). Northern Kentucky was third with 6,107.
Wright State also captured two of the top three spots in the individual standings, which included a steady finish from Madison Stiffler to earn the top spot with a 788 total. Tori Pappas finished third with 755.
Northern Kentucky's Sydney Renner finished with a 230 game to finish second with 765, while Adrian's Jordyn Stone (753) and Bowling Green State's Britni Hosterman (743) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Wildcat Invitational in New Castle, Delaware, the Adelphi women paced the field in total pinfall.
- At the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference No. 3 in Comstock Park, Michigan, the Indiana Tech women rolled to a big win, while the Lawrence Tech men grabbed the early lead and held on for victory.
- At the Northeast Classic in Lodi, New Jersey, the William Paterson men and Mount Aloysius women each recorded wins by more than 200 pins.
- At the Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Florida, the Webber International women and men swept the top spots.
- At the Warhawk Open in Addison, Illinois, the Mount Mercy men made their way through bracket play, recording a 2-1 victory in the title match against Iowa Central CC. The St. Ambrose women rolled from the No. 3 seed to claim victory, sweeping top-seed Wisconsin-Whitewater in the finals, 2-0.
- At the Mustang Invitational in Sioux City, Iowa, the Hastings women and men were victorious.
Looking ahead, BowlTV will be broadcasting a pair of upcoming Tier 1 events in Las Vegas.
