The Indiana Tech men and women collected wins this weekend at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Jackson Open in Jackson, Michigan.
There were 18 men’s varsity teams and 16 women’s varsity teams ready to compete in conference play, and each team bowled four individual games and 16 Baker games.
The Indiana Tech men had an individual total of 4,145, which was second only to Madonna’s 4,156. Indiana Tech started Baker play with a 142 but proceeded to average just over 216 during the next 15 games for a 3,389 Baker total that allowed the Warriors to jump Madonna and end the tournament in first place with an overall total of 7,534.
Two Indiana Tech players made the all-tournament team with Brandon Haney leading the men’s field with a 914 total and Ralph Carbone finishing third with 903. Spring Arbor’s Carson Kohler (905), Lawerence Tech’s Nicholas Clauson (901) and Michigan State’s Ian Kalinowski (890) joined Haney and Carbone for all-tournament honors.
On the women’s side, Indiana Tech started with a 936 in Game 1 of individuals before going 1,030, 1,124 and 1,035 to end up at the top with a score of 4,125 before Baker play. The Warriors then put up a 3,299 Baker total- averaging over 206 - and pulled away from the field, winning by nearly 400 pins with an overall score of 7,424.
Indiana Tech also had two women on the all-tournament team with Jordan Downham second with a 931 total and Jillian Treska fifth with 864. Kayla Tafanelli led all women with games of 279, 212, 256 and 211 for a 958 total while Lourdes’ Taylor Mcbride was third with 915, and Concordia's Brooke Binder was fourth with 890.
In other collegiate action:
- At the Mid Iowa Bowling Conference – Event 2 in Waterloo, Iowa, the Iowa Western men and women left with wins with the men taking first by over 200 pins and the women edging out Coe by only 36 pins.
Next week will be a busy one as there are four Tier I tournaments happening right before the holidays and will be the last events for 2023. BowlTV will be streaming two of those tournaments, the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 18-19, and the Collegiate Shootout Dec. 20-21.
