The Concordia women and Lawrence Tech men prevailed at the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference No. 3 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, over the weekend.
The Concordia women were third after four traditional games, but found their stride in Baker competition to finish with a winning pinfall total of 6,496. Indiana Tech took second with 6,383, while Aquinas ended up third with 6,355.
The Lawrence Tech men led after the first game and never looked back, recording the wire-to-wire victory by nearly 450 pins with a 7,864 total. Northwestern Ohio finished second with 7,422, and Davenport (7,100) took third.
Lawrence Tech teammates Jackie Evans and Melissa Sleda earned the top two individual spots for the women. Evans led the way with a four-game total of 821 (205.25 average), while Sleda was second at 798. Concordia's Malloree Ambs finished third with 792.
The men's individual honors also had two Lawrence Tech competitors battling for the top spot in the standings. Jerome Penxa II edged out teammate Scott Kujawa by five pins after finishing his four-game block with a 923 set (230.75 average). Third place went to Concordia's Grant Gillard with 900.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
-At the Warhawk Open, the St. Ambrose men defeated Ashford in the finals in Madison, Wisconsin, while the Ashford women took home the title against Robert Morris-Illinois in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
-At the Northeast Conference Meet No. 2 in Elmwood, New Jersey, Fairleigh Dickinson cruised to the win by more than 400 pins.
-At the Morningside Mustang Invitational in Sioux City, Iowa, Midland earned both the men's and women's titles.
-At the MEAC Conference Meet No. 2 - North in Princess Anne, Maryland, Maryland Eastern Shore rolled to a 10-0 record to top the standings.
-At the MEAC Conference Meet No. 2 - South in Tallahassee, Florida, Norfolk State put up a near-perfect 7-1 record to take home the victory.
