Calumet men, Lindenwood women lead at 2017 Hoosier Classic

INDIANAPOLIS – The Calumet men and Lindenwood women lead after the opening day of qualifying at the 2017 Hoosier Classic, the final Tier 1 of the 2016-2017 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season.
A total of 78 men’s teams and 66 women’s teams bowled six traditional games at Western Bowl on Saturday, and all teams will return Sunday for 15 Baker games to determine the eight teams in each division that will advance to the match-play bracket.
The Calumet men moved into the lead after rolling 1,214 in Game 4 on their way to a 6,275 six-game total. Wisconsin-Whitewater and William Paterson are tied for second with 6,132, while Webber International (6,105) and Midland (6,092) round out the top five.
Webber’s Cory Lenz started Saturday with a 278 game and paced the men’s individual standings with a 1,387 total, a 231.16 average. Lindenwood-Belleville’s Tim Heimann and Midland’s Nick Pate tied for second with 1,353, while Pikeville’s Andrew Letscher (1,335) and William Paterson’s Steve Kotowski (1,333) also finished in the top five.
The Lindenwood women moved into the top spot in Saturday's final game, taking the lead with a 6,011 total. St. Ambrose sits in second with 6,003, and Newman (5,940), Webber International (5,918) and Wichita State (5,851) are each in the mix.
Webber’s Anna Andersson edged Lindenwood’s Amanda Garavet for the top individual honors, finishing with 1,304, a 217.33 average. Garavet had 1,300, and Newman’s Kelly Machacek (1,296), Urbana’s Maude Demers (1,280) and St. Ambrose’s Kayla Crawford (1,273) also made the all-tournament team.
Competition will resume Sunday at 7:30 a.m. Eastern and be broadcast live on BOWL.com’s BowlTV.
