Bidwell, McEwan lead Team USA Trials after Round 2

LAS VEGAS - With two rounds completed, Devin Bidwell of Wichita, Kansas, and Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, New York, lead the field at the 2015 United States Bowling Congress Team USA Trials.
Bidwell is on top of the men's standings with 16 points (13 points for 13th place in Round 1 and three points for finishing third in Round 2), while McEwan leads the women with two points (one in Round 1 and one in Round 2) at The Orleans Bowling Center.
The players in the field earn points based on their finishing position in each round. After five rounds, the top three men and top three women with the least amount of points will advance to the stepladder finals Wednesday at 10 p.m. Eastern live on BowlTV.
After two rounds, McEwan has put together a perfect start, finishing on top of the standings in each of the first two rounds. She totaled 1,460 in the second round Sunday on the 39-foot Seoul pattern.
"It's hard to do, but I'm trying to take it one day at a time," said McEwan, a two-time Team USA Trials champion. "I have two points after two days but that really doesn't mean anything because there's a lot of bowling left."
Kelly Kulick of Union, New Jersey, is also off to a strong start with finishes of second and sixth to sit in second overall with eight points. Missy Parkin of Laguna Hills, California, and Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, New York, are tied for third with 15 points.
After getting off to a solid start in the first round Saturday, Bidwell improved upon that performance in Sunday's second round. He finished third in Round 2 with a six-game total of 1,402.
"So far, I'm just having a blast," said Bidwell, who bowled collegiately at Wichita State and was a member of Junior Team USA in 2010. "I've had a lot of fun on the lanes, and that's really on the only thing I'm trying to do at this point. I just want to go out there and enjoy bowling."
A pair of Junior Team USA members are just behind Bidwell in the overall standings. Michael Tang of San Francisco sits in second place with 21 points, while Kamron Doyle of Brentwood, Tennessee, is third with 24 points.
Team USA members Tommy Jones of Greenville, South Carolina, and Nathan Bohr of Austin, Texas, are tied for fourth with 30 points.
Top honors in Sunday's second round went to Justin Dunn of Deland, Florida, who fired a six-game total of 1,450. Dunn earned 45 points in the first round and sits in 17th overall with 46 points.
Two bowlers fired perfect games in the second round with DeeRonn Booker of Anaheim, California, and Wesley Low of Palmdale, California, shooting 300 games.
Action shifts to the third round of the event, which will be contested on the 35-foot Beijing pattern Monday. All rounds of the Team USA Trials are being broadcast live on BOWL.com's BowlTV.
The top three men and top three women after five rounds of qualifying will be guaranteed spots on Team USA in 2015 and will bowl in the stepladder finals for the right to be declared champion, a spot in the prestigious QubicaAMF World Cup and prize money.
Two more men and two more women from the event will be selected to join Team USA, while five men and five women will be selected from a pool of eligible bowlers based on their bowling resumes and Trials performance if they competed.
A total of eight Junior Team USA spots - four boys and four girls - also are available. The top two boys and top two girls in the final points standings will earn automatic spots, while two boys and two girls spots will be at-large selections taken from either the Team USA Trials field or the finals field from the Junior Gold Championships held in July 2014. All bowlers 20 and under as of Jan. 1, 2015 are eligible for Junior Team USA.
