Back in Reno and ready to begin

Greetings from Reno, Nev.
The start of the 2010 USBC Open Championships is just days away, and the excitement is building for us and the more than 70,000 bowlers who will be joining us on the lanes at the National Bowling Stadium this year.
I survived the 1,700-mile trek from Fort Worth, Texas, successfully moved into a nice house approximately 11 miles from downtown Reno and got my office set up in time for the start of the USBC Masters.
Masters qualifying will continue throughout the day today and tomorrow. The top 25 percent of the field will return for five additional games Thursday morning before the top 63 player join defending champion John Nolen in the double-elimination match-play bracket.
Once the Masters concludes, we'll begin the final preparations for the Open Championships. The final touches will be put on the venue, and we'll open the doors for the first of 136 days of competition.
This year, the media relations department will have a new look and will take on some new responsibilities.
Currently, I am joined in Reno by Aaron Smith, a 25-year-old up-and-comer who worked as a media relations specialist at the 2009 USBC Women's Championships and then came to USBC headquarters in Arlington, Texas, to continue learning about what we do.
Aaron will be with me for another month, and then he will make the trip to El Paso, Texas, where he will run the media relations show at the 2010 Women's Championships.
As you may have noticed, BOWL.com has changed a little bit since last year, and we have worked tirelessly to make sure tournament bowlers have access to all of the information they are accustomed to.
We will continue with daily news coverage from the tournament lanes, and the point-and-click Web cams soon will be available on USBCopen.com. Our video coverage proved to be a success in 2009, so we'll be doing that again. We've also had good reviews concerning our live streaming efforts at other events in recent months, so we are going to live stream some of the action from the Open Championships, too. We'll also continue with our On the Lanes features.
In the coming weeks, we will be joined by Emil Williams Jr., a graduate of Lindenwood University, who will help with our daily duties as well as spend some time in the Information area assisting bowlers with on-site awards, scoresheets, participation questions, daily announcements, etc.
We are all looking forward to an exciting and productive year in Reno. It really is a pretty nice town when you take the time to look around. There's clear skies, beautiful mountain views and a plethora of delicious places to eat. Being downtown also is nice because everything is so close and convenient. Plus, Lake Tahoe is just a short trip away and is amazing any time of year.
When you come to town, make sure to stop by and say hello. As long as there's bowling going on, we'll be here, too.
