Arkansas State takes lead at 2017 Prairie View Invitational

Standings

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arkansas State rolled the highest team game of the day Saturday at the 2017 Prairie View A&M Invitational and surged into the top spot in the standings through two days of competition.

The Red Wolves are seeking redemption after falling to Nebraska in the championship match of the 2016 event, also at the International Training and Research Center.

Arkansas State moved into the lead during the fourth of five team games Saturday, shooting 1,145, and leads the 12-team field with a two-day total of 9,953. That total includes 25 Baker games from Friday.

Four-time defending champion Nebraska is second overall with a 9,930 total and followed by first-time Prairie View A&M Invitational participant McKendree (9,879) and 2012 champion Vanderbilt (9,872).

Sam Houston State, which was winless in Friday's five five-game Baker matches, went undefeated Saturday to even its record at 5-5 and sits just outside the top four with a 9,780 total.

All 12 teams in the field bowled five Baker matches Friday and five traditional team games Saturday. Tournament action continues Sunday with one additional team game before the winner emerges from the best-of-seven match-play brackets.

Seeding for the brackets will be based on total pinfall from the 25 Baker games and six traditional games.

Along with the Prairie View A&M Invitational trophy on the line, each match the teams bowl goes toward their overall records, which helps determine the teams that qualify for the 2017 NCAA Bowling Championship being held at the Raising Cane's River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in April.

Nebraska and McKendree lead the way in the win column so far this weekend at the ITRC, each compiling 8-2 records. Arkansas State is next at 7-3.

The 2017 edition features 11 of the top 25 teams in the most recent poll and a variety of exciting formats.

Individually, last year's runner-up Jordan Richard of Arkansas State, set the pace with a five-game total of 1,100, a 220 average. Vanderbilt's Giselle Poss is second with 1,078 and followed by the Sam Houston State duo of Madysen Keller (1,072) and Heather Penatzer (1,049). Stephen F. Austin's Paige Kraushaar is fifth with 1,047.

Individual award winners will be determined after Sunday's final traditional game, and the bowler with the highest average during the six traditional games will be the tournament MVP.

All rounds of the 2017 Prairie View A&M Invitational are being broadcast live on BowlTV.

Here's the lineup of teams as they appeared on the featured pairs Friday and Saturday. Sunday's final team game will not be live streamed, but BowlTV action will resume with the championship bracket starting at 10:50 a.m. Eastern.
