ARLINGTON, Texas – Junior Team USA’s bid to medal in every event at the 2026 International Bowling Federation World Youth Championships ended when both of its Mixed Team squads were eliminated during match play at Megalanes Sarawak Bowling Centre in Sarawak, Malaysia, on Saturday.

Despite being left off the podium, both American foursomes spent the Fourth of July doing quality work.

Katelyn Abigania of San Diego, Gianna Brandolino of Channahon, Illinois; Landin Jordan of Sycamore, Illinois; and Dawson Peterson of Stewartville, Minnesota, led the 42-team qualifying field with a 10-game Baker total of 2,188 (a 218.8 average), which included six games above the 200 mark (239, 263, 257, 233, 247 and 212).

The Czech Republic (2,160), Malaysia (2,133), Japan (2,131) and Sweden (2,128) secured the remaining spots in the Mixed Team qualifying top five.

Junior Team USA’s Jacob Bockstie of Nottingham, Maryland; Josh Hammons of Topeka, Kansas; Erin Klemencic of Powder Springs, Georgia; and Elizabeth Teuber of Holly, Michigan, qualified 11th at 2,051 and went above 200 eight times (222, 201, 211, 201, 203, 233, 216 and 203).

Bockstie, Hammons, Klemencic and Teuber stayed strong during round-robin match play, posting a 5-2 record thanks to winning scores of 200, 242, 247, 215 and 215.

Malaysia finished match play at 5-2 also, however, which meant that a one-game roll-off would be needed to determine Mixed Team Match Play Group B’s second semifinalist – Finland won the group with a record of 6-1.

The bonus game was a close one, but Malaysia escaped with a hard-fought 210-195 victory to eliminate Bockstie, Hammons, Klemencic and Teuber from medal contention.

Abigania, Brandolino, Jordan and Peterson, meanwhile, saw their medal hopes end after finishing tied for fifth in Group A with a record of 3-4, which included four games north 200 (237, 205, 229 and 212).
Semifinal competition saw Malaysia top Sweden 2-0 (228-203; 237-182) while Finland took down Germany 2-1 (194-202; 181-151; 237-222).

Malaysia and Sweden move on and will square off for the Mixed Team gold medal. Sweden and German both walked away with bronze.

Singles and doubles semifinal action will take place in both divisions on Sunday.

Junior Team USA will be well represented as Abigania, Brandolino and Jordan will participate in singles semifinal competition, while Jordan and Peterson and Klemencic and Teuber will attempt to move on to the gold-medal matches in their respective divisions in doubles.

Monday’s final day of competition will see the gold-medal matches contested in all four events, singles, doubles, team and mixed team.

Once the final shots have been delivered and medals conferred, the Victory Banquet will officially bring the 2026 IBF World Youth Championships to a close on Monday night.
