All American Family event adds $50,000 in scholarships

ARLINGTON, Texas – The All American Family Tournament will have $50,000 in guaranteed scholarships added when the national championships are held in the Chicago area next summer.
The premier national event to showcase the more recreational side of the game, the All American Family Tournament was developed through International Bowling Campus Youth Development and the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America so families could compete together on the lanes.
The national tournament will take place July 8-10, a day later than originally announced, at the Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois, with each team consisting of one adult and one youth. There are four divisions based on the age of the youth bowler – Under 8, Under 12, Under 15 and Under 17 – and the adult must be at least 24 years old. The tournament is a handicap-based event and teams must qualify through a local league or tournament.
“The All American Family Tournament gives families time together on the lanes and now more young bowlers can earn scholarships,” BPAA Executive Director Frank DeSocio said. “This event also will show more families the many opportunities for young athletes through bowling.”
With the Junior Gold Championships presented by Storm, Roto Grip and Master also in the Chicago area, those attending the All American Family Tournament can attend the trade show and Collegiate Experience that is part of Junior Gold week.
At the All American Family national tournament, the first day of qualifying on July 9 will have two three-game blocks (six games total) with total pins plus handicap determining the standings. The top 12 in each division will advance to the second day and bowl three more games. The top three teams after nine total games will advance to the stepladder finals, where each match will be two games using the Baker format.
