New leads the way as field cut to top 25 at PWBA Northern Colorado Open

Qualifying results after two rounds

GREELEY, Colo.
– Twelve games of qualifying have been bowled at the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Northern Colorado Open, contested in Greeley, Colorado, at Highland Park Lanes, and the first cut has been made to the top 25 competitors.

Leading the way is Singapore’s New Hui Fen with a 12-game total of 2,864, coming off her runner-up finish last week at the PWBA Bowlers Journal Rockford Open. She showed no signs of slowing down this week after the disappointing loss, rolling the first 300 of the 2026 season during the ninth game today.

“It’s a new day, so you just reset,” said New about moving on from Rockford. “Yesterday is history once you stop thinking about it. The focus (every week) is just me and the lanes and giving the lane what it wants. If I can do that, then I think the scores should naturally come.”

Joining New in the top five is Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio (2,752), Bryanna Coté of Tucson, Arizona (2,682), Singapore’s Cherie Tan (2,670) and Malaysia’s Syazwani Sahar (2,653).

Malaysia’s Sin Li Jane (2,643), Brittany Smith of Adel, Iowa (2,639), Colombia’s Rocio Restrepo (2,638), Liz Johnson of Orlando, Florida (2,637), and Breanna Clemmer of Clover, South Carolina (2,635), close out the top 10 competitors. For the second week in a row, England’s Verity Crawley earned the last spot in, this time with 2,549.

Crystal Elliott of Palm Bay, Florida, moved on to the next round of qualifying this week after missing the cut in Rockford by just seven pins.

“It’s just a week-to-week basis of knowing what I can do and what my abilities are,” said Elliott. “These two blocks today were definitely a grind, but once I could get the double each game, I knew I could just execute to the best of my ability.”

It was a roller coaster for Elliott the first block as she ended the fifth game with 269 but only mustered 143 to end the block. She was much more consistent the next six games, shooting games between 206 and 225 to move on to Friday’s third qualifying round. Elliott has her work cut out for her though if she wants to get to the top 12 for the final round of qualifying.

“The second block was definitely a learning experience,” she said. “Just seeing how the lanes are transitioning, trusting my instincts and staying in the moment are ultimately what I have to do to be able to be successful tomorrow.”

The top 25 bowlers will return at 11 a.m. Eastern on Saturday morning for an additional six-game qualifying block before the final cut to the top 12 for the fourth and final six-game block, which will start at 4 p.m. Eastern. The top five will head to the stepladder finals beginning at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday evening.

All rounds of competition will be streamed live on BowlTV.
