Strampe gained his early fame as a member of leading teams in the Minneapolis area, then joined the Strohs of Detroit. The four-time USBC Open Championships titlist returned to the Twin Cities for a year to bowl with the Minnesota entry in the National Bowling League in 1960-61. When the league folded, he rejoined the Strohs before eventually heading out on the PBA Tour where he collected seven titles including three majors (1964 BPAA All-Star; 1964 PBA National Championship; 1966 USBC Masters). He is one of the few bowlers with 300 games in five different decades.
