Hazel McLeary was the first Canadian to hold WIBC national office and the first Canadian inducted into the WIBC Hall of Fame. McLeary was elected to the WIBC Board of Directors in 1970 and served the board for the next 30 years as WIBC director, sergeant-at-arms, seventh vice president, fifth vice president and third vice president. She also was chairman of the bowling-industry group Bowling Inc. McLeary was instrumental in the formation of the British Columbia Women's Tenpin Bowling Association in 1969 and served as its president for 11 years. She also played a key role in organizing the Canadian Tenpin Federation in 1970 and served the organization for several decades as a director and second vice president. McLeary was a leader on the international bowling scene. She served as deputy secretary of the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs, and she was first vice president of the FIQ American Zone. McLeary also was a presidium member of the World Tenpin Bowling Association. McLeary earned the FIQ Silver Pin Award and the World Bowling Writers Distinguished Service Award. She also was inducted into the British Columbia Bowling Hall of Fame, the British Columbia Women's Tenpin Bowling Association Hall of Fame and the Canadian Tenpin Federation Hall of Fame.
